Each year CHCP holds an annual event called a day at
the beach, it is held at Grand Beach usually the second
or third week of July. The purpose of the days events
are to provide a day of recreation and learning for
everyone involved. CHCP is committed to be a leader
in recreational opportunities and products in the province.
This year our annual Day at the Beach has taken
place on July 17th!
Each year CHCP brings in equipment that addresses the
recreational needs of people with many physical challenges.
This day was originally the dream of former executive
director of Manitoba Wheelchair Sports Association(MWSA)
Doug Grant and CHCP's Jake Smellie.
The day was originated to provide a recreational experience
for new and old members of MWSA as well as Canadian
Paraplegic Association(CPA), to exchange experiences
of each and learn from others challenges. The day has
now evolved to a much bigger event with groups such
as Cerebral
Palsy Association, Health
Science Center (Rehab), Tache
Center, and The
Society For Manitobans with Disabilities are now
attending.
This day of information sharing and networking has
proven to be valuable experience for therapists, recreational directors,
and funding agents. Each year an award is given to a
participant showing determination and persistence in
the days events , this award is given in Memory of the
Late Doug Grant and is called the Doug Grant Memorial
Award.
