Dragon Down the Red
"Dragon Down the Red" is a mixed Dragon Boat
team made up of parents, staff, former children , board
members, consultants and friends of the Seven Oaks Child
Day Care Centre. The team came together and began
competing in 2000. The assistant director of the day
care at that time was Donna Swistun. She had begun her
battle with breast cancer in 1999 and at that time was
paddling on an all-female boat made up of women who
were battling cancer or were cancer survivors. Donna
lost her fight in 2003 and we continue to race in her
memory.
Dragon Down the Red prides itself on its spirit of
competition in the fight against cancer. Our goal is
to paddle hard in memory of those who cannot. For this
reason, we enter the competitive division of the Dragon
Boat Festival at the Forks, where we pit ourselves against
the best paddlers in the province. The Dragon Boat Festival
is a fundraising event for Cancer Care and all team
members collect pledges from family and friends in support
of this cause.
This year, Canadian Health Care Products provided sponsorship
to the team and joined our fight
against cancer. We appreciate the contribution and support
from everyone at CHCP and look
forward to a long lasting relationship. In this year’s
festival, we finished in 5th place in the competitive
division and in the top 10 overall (out of 140 boats).
‘Til next year…”:Paddles Up!!”
